I’m a 51-year-old husband, father, and lifelong learner living in Virginia who became deeply interested in evidence-based retirement planning. After years of researching tools like Dave Ramsey’s calculators and FIREcalc, I decided to build something that combined the best of both worlds into one clean, free, and transparent tool.
Why I Built This Tool
Most retirement calculators either give you a simple growth projection or a complex historical stress test. Very few do both well — and even fewer make the process intuitive and educational. I wanted a tool that shows you:
- Where you are today (current snapshot)
- How your nest egg could grow until retirement
- Whether that nest egg is likely to last through retirement (with real risk analysis)
The result is The Path to Sound Retirement — a free, open tool that walks you from accumulation to abundance with clarity and confidence.
My Approach
I believe in transparent assumptions, clear explanations, and tools that educate rather than overwhelm. Every calculation in this app is designed to be understandable. You’ll see explanations for Monte Carlo simulations, volatility, sequence-of-returns risk, and more — right where you need them.
